Bethphage 30th Year celebrations continue as we kickstart our “Preparing for Adulthood” film project at Ruckley

Blog by Alice Blakeman, Development Manager

As we continue with our 30th birthday celebrations, we are looking towards the future and how we can continue to develop the support we provide as an organisation as well as be a reliable source of information for families, carers and people being supported.

We know the move from children’s to adult social care can be daunting and uncertain for young people and their families/carers and feel as a care provider, there is more we can do to provide insight into what different options are available for the young person as they approach adulthood and beyond.

We also understand that people can “transition” to adult social care services at different points in their lives. While these discussions often focus on the move from children’s to adults’ social care, many individuals may move to adult social care services later in life. These individuals may have been supported by their families who are planning their future if they are no longer able to provide this support.

This is why we are aiming to create an information hub on our website including videos explaining supported living, being supported with finances and more. We will also provide links to signpost to local services.

We have been led by conversations with the Shropshire Parent Carer Council (PACC), Parents Open Doors Telford (PODs), other parent-carers and our managers helping us understand the type of information that would be beneficial for young people and parents.

Myself and Lucy from our Marketing Team recently visited one of our supported living services in Shropshire accompanied by our Digital Outreach Worker and Assistive Technology Lead Tim.  Working with the people and staff at Ruckley, we began working on a new film project to capture what life is like in supported living.  Established in 2018, Ruckley is a great example of Supported Living working well in a group setting, people have their own ensuite rooms but also benefit from a large communal living area and garden.

Everyone at Ruckley was delighted to wish Bethphage a happy 30th birthday!

Be on the lookout for more information about this project in the coming months!
