Posted time 2023/12/02 Location Multiple Locations Job type Volunteer

From 4 hours per week

We have an exciting volunteer opportunity to work alongside the Shared Lives Officers, carrying out welfare visits to people who live with their Shared Lives Carers.

Are you passionate about ensuring people with support needs are happy with their lives and the direction they are going in?

Do you enjoy finding out what is working well for people, what they may need additional support with and ensuring their voice is heard?

Directed and supported by the Registered Manager, the role of the Shared Lives Volunteer Support Officer will be an integral part of gathering feedback through face to face meetings, phone calls or Microsoft Teams meetings about the lived experience of people supported in Shared Lives.  This support and feedback can also extend to the Shared Lives Carers.

Our Carers and people supported are based throughout Shropshire, so travel will be a requirement of the role.  Visits will need to be planned ahead and with guidance from the allocated Shared Lives Officer.

Your role will involve raising awareness about how to share complaints or concerns, ensuring that people using shared lives and their carers have access to the Speaking up and Feedback policies.

You will be required to adapt to different individuals’ communication needs, have an open and positive communication style and be friendly and professional in your approach.

You will capture feedback and share as requested, with the Registered Manager, so general IT skills and good written communication will be required.

Ideally, we are looking for someone that can commit to a minimum average of 4hrs per week but this can be flexible and can be discussed on application.

This role will require the completion of essential training to support the work and the successful applicant will be required to have an enhanced DBS.  You will have access to supervision and support as part of the role.

Benefits of Volunteering for us:

  • Paid enhanced DBS certificate
  • Paid training
  • Flexibility of hours
  • Development opportunities
  • Mileage allowance

About our organisation

Bethphage is a registered charity which was established in 1994 and provides support to adults with learning and physical Disabilities in Shropshire and the West Midlands.

Everything we do is individually designed to enable people to achieve their potential and meet their objectives and need for support. The people that we support may live in their own home, a home that is shared with other people, their family home or a shared care home.

It is the aim of Bethphage to provide outstanding care and support throughout the organisation so it essential that you will be dedicated to providing the highest levels of care that you can.

You will be required to create a team that champions excellent support by actively coaching and modelling respectful positive approaches to achieve the greatest possible independence and quality of life for the people we support, based on an understanding of what is important to and for them.

About Shared Lives

Shared Lives is a different way of providing much-needed support to vulnerable adults, it’s different to home care, supported living and residential care as it is provided by a shared lives carer and their network of family, friends and connections and takes place in the shared lives carers home.

Shared Lives enables people to live with the family and experience family life, helping to develop relationships which they may not have access to through home care, residential and supported living services that are provided in the usual way.

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexibility and punctuality
  • Organisational skills
  • Professional and friendly personality
  • A background of working in a similar role would be ideal, but not necessary

Volunteers must be willing to complete an enhanced DBS

No formal qualifications are required but the following would be advantageous;

  • Qualification in Health & Social Care
  • Care Certificate
  • Safeguarding
