On Friday the 26th of September we join our fantastic fundraiser Helen Pugh at the BBC Make a Difference Awards for Shropshire.
Helen was shortlisted at the awards for her fundraising efforts for us last year. Her “35 Miles for Bethphage” challenge was an accessible triathlon which Helen completed over a few weeks at a local gym which raised over £900 for us!
Of her challenge, Helen said:
“This endeavour was incredibly difficult due to exhaustion and chronic pain related to my various health conditions and mobility issues. I have EDS, fibromyalgia and numerous other conditions, which meant that 35 miles was a big challenge, and I was so proud to meet the mileage goal early! It’s been amazing to receive support from so many people and local businesses; I know all the money raised will make such a difference to Bethphage and the people they support.”
Helen didn’t stop there as she went on to organise a pre-loved fashion sale at St Mary’s Church in Shrewsbury, co-ordinating the entire day, including sourcing clothes donations. The event raised a further £500!
All her fantastic fundraising efforts contributed towards our new Blossom Barns polytunnel!

Helen was shortlisted in the “fundraiser” category of the BBC Make a difference Awards and was invited to the award ceremony and afternoon tea at the Anstice in Telford. The afternoon was hosted by BBC Radio Shropshire DJ Paul Shuttleworth and showcased many amazing people across Shropshire who are working to make their communities great places to be.
While Helen did not walk away with the win this time, all nominees were “highly commended”, and we could not be more thankful for Helen’s fundraising efforts for us. She is a testament to what the awards are all about, local people working to make a difference in their communities and she shows us all that you can make fundraising work for you!
Reflecting on the awards, Helen said:
“It’s truly special, being in a room full of people who’ve quietly gone above and beyond, not for awards or applause, but out of pure kindness and a desire to help others. I’m grateful this moment puts a spotlight on the incredible work Bethphage does.”
We’d like to congratulate all the award winners and nominees for all of their brilliant work and thank BBC Radio Shropshire for a brilliant afternoon!
