Blossom Barns – Day Opportunities

Purchased in 2024, “Blossom Barns” is a farm-based day opportunity for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism where people can build on existing skills and learn new ones by participating in a range of activities with a focus on horticulture and animal husbandry.

We grow a range of produce including vegetables, salad, flowers and plants and establish a farm shop that will sell our fresh produce, our home-made jams and chutneys.  People on the farm also learn craft and carpentry skills, creating products such as bird houses, insect hotels and a variety of homeware gifts.

We play an active role in the local community and surrounding areas and participate in local events; agriculture shows and markets.

Support encompasses aspects of day-to-day life skills, such as cooking, cleaning, education and training, leading healthy lives while developing social skills. Each individual sets their own goals to work towards and are part of an inclusive culture that upskills people by encouraging continuous learning and development.

The site comprises of a farmhouse, 12 acres of land including a range of farm-out buildings.

Bethphage are committed to ensuring that people we support continue to have a farm service available to them long into the future and that they are at the heart of creating this new space.

Fundraising

We’re currently fundraising money for our community orchard. The orchard will be accessible to the public for free through events and open days. Accessible paths will lead to our raised beds and a pumpkin patch. We will plant wildflowers to encourage biodiversity and support the fruit trees. Benches will be available for people to enjoy the space.

This project will connect people with fresh local ingredients. The community will benefit from the orchard through pick-your-own fruit days.

The people we support will work with volunteers to choose, plant, and grow the trees, pick the fruit, and make jams and chutneys to sell in the farm shop. This project will offer a community green space for Chelmarsh and surrounding areas; while enabling us to upskill the people we support in orchard management & tree care.

“Support plans were person-centred, up to date and reviewed regularly. People were involved in their reviews. One person said, “We’ve got my review coming up soon, we’ll talk about everything.” Plans guided staff to focus on the person’s well-being and what outcomes and goals they wanted to achieve.”
