Bethphage are deeply saddened and shocked at the recent violence, unrest and rioting that has been taking place across the country. Racism plays no part in our society, we know that the actions of this small minority of individuals does not reflect the wider views of the British public who are open, tolerant and law-abiding citizens. We feel reassured by the scenes last night where concerns for a heavy night of civil unrest did not materialise and members of the public gathered peacefully to express this view.
We would also like to send our support and sympathies to the community of Southport and the families of all those affected by the unimaginable tragedy that took place on the 29th of July. It has been shameful to see how opportunists have used this as an excuse to act with violence and spread division within our communities based on prejudice and misinformation.
Our vision is of inclusive communities – this is something we are passionate about. We are proud of our diverse staff team who work tirelessly to provide the best support, ensuring that people with disabilities get to live the life they choose.
Although the ease in tensions last night is reassuring, we will remain vigilant and exercise additional caution until this situation is fully under control.
We urge if any of our staff, people being supported, Shared Lives carers are concerned or need support then please do contact us immediately. We want to prevent any harm to our staff or those we support. Additionally, if you are a victim of hate crime or aware of a hate crime, report it to the police promptly with all the factual details and notify your manager.
