Rising financial pressures, including mandated wage increases and higher National Insurance contributions from April 2025, present a significant challenge to the sector. Without action, there is a risk to the stability and sustainability of care that many vulnerable people rely on every day.
The NI changes will result in additional costs of £615 per employee who work more than 14 hours per week. At Bethphage, this results in additional costs of over £750,000 (not taking into account other inflationary increases).
The social care sector supports 1.2million individuals and employs 1.59million people in the UK, these are the people who will suffer the consequences of these decisions.
Who are “Providers Unite”?
Providers Unite is a grassroots coalition uniting community care and support providers across the UK.
They are campaigning for the government to:
- Immediately review of National Insurance and NLW increases for social care to prevent the collapse of essential services
- Urgently adjust Local Government Finance settlement to bridge the funding gap in social care
How can you help?
If you cannot attend the rally on the day you can:
- Sign the open letter on Providers Unite’s website
- Write to your own MP and talk to them about your worries that the impact of the autumn budget will have on the social care sector
- Boost social media posts about the day of action by sharing, liking and commenting your support! Bethphage will be posting throughout the day of action and beyond. Providers Unite are also posting on social media
Thank you for your support!
