Safeguarding at Bethphage

Safeguarding is a vital part of what we do at Bethphage, it underpins our core values of honesty, respect, active involvement and personal growth. As a Positive Behaviour Organisation, we have comprehensive arrangements to protect the people we support from abuse and to promote dignity and respect.

Our safeguarding practice includes:

  • Our Safeguarding and Speaking Up policies.
  • All staff receiving Safeguarding training at their induction which is refreshed regularly.
  • Staff that provide direct support receiving ongoing supervision of their practice and completing an annual Safeguarding Competency which assesses their knowledge, and helps to identify any areas less clear to them to be addressed by their manager.
  • An annual internal audit of all of our services is conducted and led by our Quality Manager.
  • Encouraging staff to raise any concerns they may have; either internally to their Service Manager, Area Manager, our Safeguarding Leads or through our Speaking Up system “SeeHearSpeakUp”; an independent reporting service that that will act impartially to any matter raised.
  • Our Safeguarding Leads for the organisation, including our head of operations and quality manager who work to ensure all safeguarding practices are followed by all staff at all levels and that all concerns are fully investigated in line with procedures.
  • Regularly attending the quarterly Safeguarding Adults Forum that is facilitated by Partners in Care to help us keep up to date with good practice and learn from others.

We understand that Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and try to embed this principle into everything that we do.

Any safeguarding concerns are responded to appropriately in accordance with the Safeguarding Adults: Multi agency policy for the West Midlands and formal notifications are made to L.A., CQC and the Charity Commission in line with their requirements.

We look at any concerns to see what we can learn from this to reduce risks and improve practice going forward and this will be shared with relevant people throughout the organisation including Board members.

“People told us they knew how to complain about the care. One person said, “I’d tell the staff if I was unhappy with my care”. A relative told us, “We can contact any staff right up to the chief executive. They’ve always acted on any questions or concerns raised”.”
