Posted time 2023/12/12 Location Oswestry Job type Support Worker

Thank you for looking at our vacancy

We have a fantastic opportunity to join our charity to support a lively, fun-loving person as she journeys though adulthood, living in her own home within the local community. Let’s call her Sally.

Sally has autism, she has an energetic personality and when she is comfortable with you, likes to be cheeky and loves banter and a laugh. Sally is musical and loves to listen to lots of different music while dancing around, best get your dancing shoes on. You will also need to be on your toes though, as she enjoys being outside, busy and active, from her bike to going swimming to curling up and watching police programmes. So, no two days are the same and you will need to be able to adapt to the pace.

This role is not for everyone and you will need to switch from between being super active to being a sloth on the sofa as Sally loves having a PJ day too with messy play, sensory activities and story time. Sally is also clear about what she does not like and that includes, busy places and loud noises. She also does not respond well to bossy, grumpy and unkind people.

Like the rest of the team, you will need to take time to get to know Sally and to do this you will be caring, a good listener, positive and ready to adapt. Don’t worry though, you will always work as part of a team and, we will provide you with comprehensive and first-class training which we pay for. You will be actively supported by your service manager, our operations, positive behaviour support (PBS) and quality teams.

Sally who will ultimately appoint her team needs support 24/7 and at all times. As we are recruiting a new team there are an array shifts available, including day and waking nights. There are also seven sleep in shifts available every week.

As a Positive Behaviour Organisation, we support people who have complex needs, including learning disabilities, mental health, autism, communication and physical health needs. Whilst, we can promise a hugely rewarding and varied experience supporting people to live independently and achieve their full potential, some of the people who use our services need additional support to manage situations and emotions which can trigger anxiety and distress, with the support of the PBS team and training, you will learn to support Sally effectively along with the rest of the team.
