Bethphage & Treat Me Well Shropshire are delighted by the news that the Joint Commission\u00a0on Vaccination and\u00a0<\/span>Immunisation<\/span>\u00a0has advised the government to\u00a0<\/span>prioritise<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>peopl<\/span>e on the Learning Disability Register for the coronavirus vaccination\u00a0immediately.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is a monumental victory for all those who have been campaigning for people with learning disabilities to be\u00a0prioritised\u00a0within the vaccination rollout & will go a long way in ensuring protection for the thousands of people with a learning disability across the country that were overlooked in the\u00a0initial\u00a0rollout.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Research has shown people with a learning disability are at a greater risk of dying from Covid<\/span>;\u00a0<\/span>it is vita<\/span>l<\/span>l<\/span>y important that<\/span>\u00a0these people are given the chance to\u00a0receive\u00a0the protection that the vaccine offers.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However,\u00a0<\/span>it<\/span>\u00a0is estimated that 1.2 million people in\u00a0<\/span>England<\/span>\u00a0have a learning disability, but only 150,000 people are on the Learning Disability Register.\u00a0<\/span>If you are unsure if you\u00a0<\/span>are<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>on the Learning Disability Register<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0talk to your GP.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
