Jess, who Bethphage support in Shrewsbury,\u00a0established\u00a0and runs Crazy Creative Dance Group with her mum, Jo. The group, set up to show what people with disabilities can do when given opportunities, gives people the chance to perform, build confidence, make friends, develop new\u00a0skills\u00a0and express themselves in a safe, welcoming space.<\/p>\n

Performing has always been part of Jess\u2019s life, inspired by her parents\u2019 theatre company,\u00a0\u201cAble and\u00a0Disabled\u201d\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0that passion is now helping others shine too.\u00a0After training as a dance leader during the pandemic, Jess was determined to create something of her own. In early 2025, she and Jo launched the group at The Gateway in Shrewsbury, turning that determination into a growing community opportunity.<\/p>\n

Jess\u2019s\u00a0drive and\u00a0strength of character\u00a0has\u00a0been\u00a0key to the groups success.\u00a0Even after an operation, she came straight back,\u00a0performing\u00a0from her\u00a0wheelchair,\u00a0showing\u00a0\u00a0resilience, persistence and commitment to the people who rely on the group each week.<\/p>\n

What started with six members has grown to 15 regular dancers, with support workers often joining in too. As the group has grown, so has participants\u2019 confidence,\u00a0creativity\u00a0and willingness to try new things.<\/p>\n

Crazy Creative Dance Group is all about helping people grow in confidence, unleash their potential and be seen for their strengths whilst developing friendships.<\/h4>\n

A\u00a0one-year\u00a0anniversary performance\u00a0in\u00a0February celebrated\u00a0the group\u2019s talent and helped raise\u00a0a fantastic \u00a3850 towards its ongoing\u00a0costs\u00a0its future. Most importantly, it gave dancers the chance to share their ideas, develop their talents and show exactly what they can do.<\/p>\n

The group is delighted to recently secure sponsorship from a parent\u2019s business, which Jo describes as a \u201chuge relief\u201d as it eases the pressure of finding room-hire costs and helping to fund T-shirts for members. Support still needed\u00a0or\u00a0How\u00a0you can Support Crazy Creative Dance Group<\/b><\/h3>\n

Looking ahead<\/b><\/h3>\n

Future plans\u00a0and\u00a0aspirations include;\u00a0involvement in\u00a0Shrewsbury Folk Festival, arranging day trips to watch performances\u00a0by leading disabled dance groups such as\u00a0Freefall in Birmingham, and offering more dance workshops to give members fresh experiences and new opportunities to develop their skills.<\/p>\n

Jess\u2019s creativity extends beyond dance. She also paints and writes poetry, with some of her poems\u00a0being\u00a0recited\u00a0during some of the\u00a0dance performances. Her artwork is attracting growing interest, with pieces on display in Shrewsbury, and she has now secured her first commission.
