_builder_version=&#8221;4.0.8&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.5.1&#8243; custom_padding=&#8221;1px|||||&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Impact of Coronavirus on People with Learning Disabilities <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>It was really tragic to read Public Health England\u2019s <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/people-with-learning-disabilities-had-higher-death-rate-from-covid-19\"><strong>report<\/strong><\/a><strong> on how adults with learning disabilities are disproportionately affected by coronavirus.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0This is why at Bethphage we are doing all we can to keep the people we support as safe as possible from Coronavirus by<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>following latest public health guidelines<\/li>\n<li>ensuring our staff are equipped with the right PPE<\/li>\n<li>people are keeping their distance<\/li>\n<li>maintaining the highest hygiene standards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At Bethphage we already know that people with learning disabilities tend to suffer from poorer health than the general population which is why we are passionate about improving their health outcomes. This report highlights to us\u00a0 the importance of the work we are doing with Mencap Campaigns on <strong>Treat Me Well Shropshire<\/strong> where we are working together to improve experiences people with learning disabilities face when accessing healthcare.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Treat Me Well Shropshire <\/strong>met again last week and wanted to remind everyone of the importance of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ensuring that annual health checks do still occur despite Coronavirus restrictions<\/li>\n<li>people know their rights and they can be accompanied by a carer when accessing healthcare<\/li>\n<li>how they can ask for reasonable adjustments like better communication, more time and clearer information which can make a huge difference to the whole experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We were delighted to have been\u00a0 joined by Ellie from <strong>Shrewsbury &amp; Telford NHS Trust\u2019s\u00a0 Patient Experience Team.<\/strong> It was great to hear the steps they are taking\u00a0 at to improve the whole patient experience for adults with learning disabilities. They have created more more easy read leaflets, working towards improving the signage\u00a0 and will be implementing better ways to ensure the hospital passport is seen and used by healthcare
