Bethphage says a big thank you to both those who attended and those who facilitated our Better Health Day on Friday, 12th April to make it a huge success.
Our Better Health Day was about
- Informing colleagues of the different ways we can achieve better health outcomes for both the people we support and ourselves in the work place.
- Sharing knowledge & learning
- Providing networking opportunities
Over 30 colleagues attended on the day and participated in a range of workshops and we have had some really positive feedback from the day which involved:
Healthy Eating Workshop led by Cathy Levy and Miranda Ashwell from Help2Change Shropshire
Treat Me Well Campaigns Workshop led by Bindy Mistry from Mencap with the Dudley Voices for Choice Group who gave an inspirational talk about how they have made a real difference in their local hospital for adults with learning disabilities.
In the afternoon we heard from Elaine Miller and Linda Hudson from Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS trust who explained to us what we should expect from hospital staff when accessing health care with adults with learning disabilities. They also explained the kind of things we can ask for to help ensure the experience is as painless as possible for the people we support.
The day ended on a high with an interactive workshop led by Jess Lightwood and Ben Harper from Energize where they discussed the some of the feedback from our recent Bethphage Better Health Survey and what we can learn from it.
Our Better Health Theme is for the whole year and we have more events planned. We have linked with three local parkruns in Shropshire to promote opportunities for people with learning disabilities to get into running. More information can be found here
We are working with Mencap again this summer to support their Treat Me Well Shropshire Workshops – more information can be found here.
Our annual staff conference will be held in the afternoon of 11th October this year to coincide with our 25th birthday party celebration in the evening and Energize amongst other special guests will help us continue to develop and implement the Better Health Initiative. More smaller events along the Better Health Theme will continue throughout the year so please share your ideas and suggestions with us and watch this space for more information.
