Angela Whitby, a support worker in our West Midlands branch was honoured at the inaugural Birmingham Care Awards on 2nd June. Angela and her colleague Harriet Jones support two ladies who share a house together and are experiencing declining health as they age. Angela has supported these ladies for many years and uses her long term knowledge to ensure the very best care for the people she supports. The judges heard how Angela and Harriet’s determination, drive and knowledge of the ladies they support ensured that one of the ladies received timely and appropriate treatment and care from the appropriate professionals even when initial consultations had failed to diagnose the main needs. We believe that the support Angela and Harriet provide in Birmingham is exemplary of our principles as a Positive Behaviour Organisation. Sometimes personal growth means preserving the skills and opportunities that people we support had earlier in their lives and this is a good example of this value in practice. We are very proud to count Angela among our staff and to see her recognised in this very public way alongside other excellent carers in Birmingham.
The awards were held at Edgbaston Cricket Ground and presented by the award sponsors and hosted by ITV weather presenter, Emma Jesson. Emma announced that in some categories there had been 70 – 80 nominations, so becoming one of just 3 finalists in the Excellence in Care category is a tremendous achievement. Angela received a framed certificate and was accompanied to the awards by proud members of her family, Bethphage CEO Peter Loose and Isatou Jallow and Thoko Sibanda from the Bethphage West Midlands management team.
