The trustees of Bethphage are delighted to announce that following her appointment as Deputy CEO in 2019, Stef Kay has now been appointed as Bethphage Chief Executive Officer.
In light of the significant recent challenges that Stef has had to navigate under continuing scrutiny, the road to her appointment has probably been tougher than any other Bethphage recruitment, whether from an internal or external candidate. Despite this, during the past year Stef has earned the confidence of her peers and the Board in her demonstrable ability to expertly lead the organisation though the challenges faced. Through well considered recruitment decisions, Stef has strengthened the Executive Management Team of Bethphage. Throughout this period she has also demonstrated not only Bethphage’s values, but also the best attributes required of a leader of a Positive Behaviour Organisation. She has achieved this during one of the most challenging times for Bethphage in its existence, and for the care sector.
Stef has over 30 years’ experience working in social care, starting as a support worker and progressing her career in learning disability service provision at both a large national charity and a large national ‘for profit’ company. Her experience has been gained by progressing through all levels of the organisation. Since her appointment as Bethphage’s Operations Director over 10 years ago, the organisation has trebled in size and she has created an operations structure that maintains our focus on quality as we grow.
Stef commented: “I am thrilled to be appointed as Bethphage’s Chief Executive Officer and for the confidence shown in me by the board, my colleagues and Bethphage’s stakeholders – it confirms my belief that it is possible to dream big! Our challenges are clear: We must safely navigate the problems that Covid-19 will continue to present and at the same time position Bethphage to thrive in what is likely to be a significantly different social care landscape in the future. But, I believe Bethphage can dare to dream big!”
Derek Lum, Chair of Bethphage said: “The Board are delighted to confirm the appointment of Stef Kay as Bethphage’s CEO, and proud that Bethphage was able to appoint from within for this vital role. Stef is passionate about the people we support being able to live the best life possible with the greatest of independence. Her learning disability expertise is well proven in Bethphage, and in the past year she has demonstrated the leadership qualities that Bethphage needs to deal with the challenges of Covid-19, and to lead a team that is determined to successfully navigate the threats and opportunities that the future presents. With her collaborative, positive behaviour approach Stef has demonstrated consistently to the Board, the whole organisation, and its stakeholders that she exceeds the rigorous person specification that the Board has developed for the role of CEO. At a very difficult time for the sector, the Board are confident that we have selected the best possible candidate.”
