Earlier this year, on the 26th of September, Bethphage celebrated our 25th birthday. To mark this special occasion, on the 11th of October following our staff conference, we held a party for our staff and the people we support
Bethphage Staff Conference 2019
This year, our conference took place in the afternoon, allowing us time to celebrate our birthday in the evening. We had a team of dedicated colleagues who helped throughout the day to ensure the conference ran smoothly.
The theme was Better Health and featured a range of workshops focused on improving the health of people we support and our colleagues. Energize, a local organisation that we have been working with on our Better Health campaign throughout the year, delivered workshops focused on “Energizing Your Workplace” and “Inclusive Activity,” supporting the people we support to engage in physical activity. Our very own Lucy Jennings, from Ruckley, delivered a healthy eating workshop and our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) team presented a calming, Mindfulness session. Finally, Bindy Mistry from Mencap represented the Treat Me Well campaign, along with some of the people we support from the Treat Me Well Shropshire group, and with a last minute change, our Area Manager Mandy delivered a Person Centered Planning workshop.
Our conference was also attended by our founder and honorary president Donna Werner. Donna travelled from the United States to join in our celebrations and we are so grateful for her attendance.
We believe these workshops and the conference as a whole under the umbrella of our Better Health theme gave our colleagues insight and resources to implement both into their working practices and at home. This is a theme that we will to continue into next year. We also introduced various initiatives including the “thank you” books for staff and the Treat Me Well Shropshire campaign. It was also an opportunity for us to trial live polling as a way for our staff to give feedback.
Comments from the day were widely positive and we would like to say a big thank you for all those who attended and lent their help.
The party kicked off with an opening speech from our deputy CEO Stef and the Mayor of Shrewsbury, Phil Gillam, we then moved onto a brilliant dance performance from the dance company Meta4Dance! After a lovely buffet we moved onto the staff awards, it was brilliant to see some of the people we support go up to accept awards with the teams and staff members being awarded. Donna Werner, our founder and honorary president, then gifted three of the people we have been supporting the longest gifts from us all.
It was then time to cut the cake and present Donna with a gift from us, before we moved onto the raffle. We were fortunate enough to be gifted with some amazing raffle prizes from local business and other generous organizations. Once all the raffle prizes had been won it was time for everyone to put on their dancing shoes! Throughout the night Steve Elliot, the photographer, captured many amazing moments, along with a photobooth provided by Fun Party Booth and Colin the magician delighted us all with some table side tricks.
We would like to thank everybody who helped throughout the day on Thursday and the support staff both on shift at the event and who could not attend.
