Seven Support Workers from Bethphage’s Viewmount service will be doing a 12 mile sponsored walk on Sunday, 20th November 2016, starting in Whitchurch, along the old canal path to Nantwich to raise funds to purchase sensory equipment for the people who we support at Bethphage’s Whitchurch services. They will be wearing Bethphage tee shirts to raise awareness and hope any media interest will contribute towards promoting adults with learning disabilities in a positive light.
Bethphage’s Support staff are passionate about providing the highest level of care to the people they support and feel they would benefit from having easier access to sensory equipment as this resource is not available locally. Previously, staff have transported people from Whitchurch to Shrewsbury to access the sensory bus which ceased several years ago or to a gym in Wem. Sensory equipment is a great resource which has multiple functions and benefits to people with learning disabilities. It can help meet alternative needs in creative ways, improve social skills and communication, it can enable a sense of wellbeing and willingness to participate, it can also reduce feelings of agitation and anxiety, trigger memories and stimulate the senses.
The team are grateful for the support they have received locally, in particular, Whitchurch Sports Shop who have kindly donated seven engraved medals. http://www.whitchurch-sports.co.uk/about.htm
We are fortunate to have enthusiastic hard working staff who are really committed not just to caring well for the people we support but also to improving the facilities and opportunities available to them. Eileen and the team would welcome any donations to their sponsorship fund.
